People seem to have lost all sense of decency. Dirty and cheap film posters stare at the people from every wall and corner of this city. These dirty posters are displayed prominently near schools and colleges. These posters have a very harmful effect on young and tender minds. Ladies also feel badly embarrassed when they come across such vulgar posters where woman’s body is exposed shamelessly.

Kindly take personal interest in the matter and ban all display of such cheap and indecent posters.

All suspected Moti who is known bicycle thief. It surely appeared to be his handiwork or that of his gang men.

The make of the bicycle is ‘Eastern Star’. Its number is 5676. It is a brand new bicycle. Its color is green. The photocopy of the cash memo is enclosed.

I am sure that all these particular will enable you to trace out my lost bicycle.  I shall feel obliged to your if you investigate the matter at your earliest. I am facing a great hardship without the bicycle.

I beg to bring to your kind notice that constable No. 67-M misbehaved with me yesterday near the Grain Market. I was returning from the hospital and had stopped at the Grain Market in order to make certain purchases.

It so happened that at the Gandhi Nagar crossing a cyclist was negotiating a turn to his right when the lights went off owning to breakdown of electricity. I was just following him. I slowed my vehicle and saw that the constable was beating the cyclist. I told him to stop beating him. Thereupon, he abused me and even charged at me. I went back toward my vehicle and thus saved myself.

Later in the day, I gathered that the constable was a drug addict. He is in the habit of misbehaving with the people. He also teases young girls and flings remarks at them. A shopkeeper in the Main Bazaar tells me that the constable extorts money from innocent farmers who come to buy seeds from the Grain Market. 

I hope you would take up the matter seriously. Kindly warn the constable to behave nicely towards the public in future. It will be appreciated if this constable is sent back to the police lines for a refresher course in traffic regulations and public dealing.

We, the residents of Basti Nagar, wish to draw your kind attention to the increasing incidents of eve-teasing and lawlessness in the city. It has become a big menace for peace-loving citizens. Of late, the populations of this city has increased. Some bad elements have infiltrated into this quiet and calm city situated on the foothills of the Shivalik range of mountains. College boys who are not interested in studies join these bad elements and pollute the atmosphere in the city. They pass dirty remarks and even chase the poor and helpless girls. It has become very difficult to leave girls on city roads during dim hours. Some cases of molestation have already occurred.

Besides this, thefts in the city are on the increase. A few days ago, some bad characters broke into the house of a bank manager. It was a regular theft and the whole house was ransacked. In yet another incident, a lady teacher returning home in a rickshaw was waylaid and robbed of her whole month’s salary at pistol-point. Incidents of pick-pocketing have increased. Some important persons and the members of the Municipal Council shall wait upon you on the coming Monday at your residence to apprise you of the situation. 

We hope that you will take stringent action against the culprits and maintain law and order in the city. The sooner the evil is nipped in the bud, the better it will be.

वैज्ञानिक उत्पादन में वृद्धि – आज से कुछ वर्ष पहले बिजली का अविष्कार नहीं हुआ था | तब न स्वचालित मशीनें थी, न रातें प्रकाशमान थीं | नगर और ग्राम संध्या होते ही अँधेरे से घिर जाते थे | आज हमारी रातें रोशन हैं | दिन में ही नहीं, रात में भी रोशनियाँ जगमगाती हैं | कारखाने दिन-रात उत्पाद उगलते हैं | मनुष्य की क्षमता कितनी बढ़ गई है !

स्वास्थ्य और चिकित्सा से सुधर – विज्ञान के कारण हमने अनेक बीमारियों पर विजय पा ली है | मृत्यु-दर को काफी मात्रा में नियंत्रण पा लिया है | जीवन का स्तर सुधार लिया है | बाढ़, सूखा, महामारी जैसी प्राक्रतिक विपदाओं पर भी काफी मात्रा में नियंत्रण पा लिया है  | पोलियो, मलेरिया, चेचक जैसी अनेक बीमारियों के विरूद्ध अभियान छेड़कर जनजीवन को सुरक्षित बनाने के प्रयास जारी हैं |

तार्किक चिंतन का विकास – विज्ञान व्यक्ति के चिंतन पर भी प्रभाव डालता है | वह तथ्यों को महत्व देता है | इसका लाभ यह है कि मनुष्य अपनी रुढियों के जंजाल से मुक्त होता है | उसकी कपोल-कल्पनाएँ नष्ट होती हैं | जिन भ्रामक धारणाओं के कारण उसका जीवन नष्ट होता था, उसने उसे मुक्ति मिलती है |

विज्ञान सत्य की खोज का सबसे सशक्त साधन है | एक उदाहरण पर्याप्त है | क्रिकेट के मैच में लैग-अंपायर संदिग्ध कैच और रन-आउट के सूक्ष्म अंतर को पकड़ने में गलतियाँ कर जाता था | अतः उसकी छोटी- सी गलती किसी भी टीम या खिलाड़ी का मनोबल तोड़ देती थी | परंतु आज मशीन की सहायता से यह गलती टल जाती है | इस प्रकार विज्ञान अनेक रोगों की सही पहचान कराके हमें अनेक बीमारयों से बचा लेता है | सचमुच विज्ञान वरदान है |

विज्ञान एक वरदान – अर्केडियन फरार लिखते हैं- “विज्ञान ने अंधों को आँखों दी हैं और बहरों को सुनने की शक्ति | उसने जीवन को दीर्घ बना दिया है, भय को कम कर दिया है | उसने पागलपन को वश में कर लिया है और रोग को रौंद डाला है |” यह उक्ति सत्य है | विज्ञान की सहायता से असाध्य रोगों के इलाज ढूंढ लिए गए हैं | कई बिमारियों को समूल नष्ट कर दिया गया है |

रसोई-घर से लेकर मुर्दाघर तक सब जगह विज्ञान ने वरदान ही वरदान बाँटे हैं | विज्ञान की सयाहता से पूरी दुनिया एक परिवार बन गई है | जब चाहे, तब मनुष्य अपने प्रियजनों से बात कर सकता है | घंटे भर में दुनिया का चक्कर लगा सकता है | सैकेंडों में दुनिया-भर को कोई संदेश दिया जा सकता है |

विज्ञान ने दूरदर्शन, रेडियो, विडियो, ऑडियो, चलचित्र आदि के द्वारा मनुष्य के नीरस जीवन को सरस बना दिया है | चोबिसों घंटे चलने वाले कार्यक्रम, नए-नए सुंदर सुस्वादु  व्यंजन, सुखदायक रंगीन वस्त्र, सौंदर्य-वर्द्धक साधन विज्ञान की ही देन हैं |

विज्ञान : एक अभिशाप – विज्ञान का सबसे बड़ा कहता है – पर्यावरण प्रदूषण | इसके कारण आज शहरों में साँस लेना दूभर हो गया है | हर जगह शोर, गंदगी और बिमारियों का साम्राज्य-सा फैल गया है | कृत्रिम खादों, दवाइयां के कारण भूमि से उत्पन्न अन्न-फल तक दूषित हो गए हैं |

विज्ञान की सहायता से मनुष्य ने खतरनाक बम बना लिए हैं | इससे अनेक बार विषैली गैसों तथा रेडियोधर्मी किरने विकीर्ण हो चुकी हैं | भोपाल गैस कांड और ओजोन गैस की परत का फटना इसके ज्वलंत उदाहरन हैं | यातायात की तेज गति के कारण भी मौतें होने लगी हैं | लोगों के शरीर पंगु होने लगे हैं | ये सब जीवन पर अभिशाप हैं |

अमानवीयता – आज का वैज्ञानिक मानव स्वार्थी, छली, चालाक, कृत्रिम और विलासी हो गिया है | दया, मानवता, श्रद्धा, आदर, कोमलता जैसे मानवीय गुणों से उसका नाता टूट गया है | ये बातें मनुष्य के लिए अशुभ हैं | विज्ञान ने मनुष्य को बेरोज़गार बना दिया है | सैंकड़ो आदमियों का कम करने वाली मशीनों ने कारीगरों के हाथ बेकार कर दिए हैं |

निष्कर्ष – सच बात यह है कि विज्ञान के सदुपयोग या दुरुपयोग को ही वरदान या अभिशाप कहते हैं | विज्ञान का संतुलित उपयोग जीवनदायी है | उसका अंधाधुंद दुरुपयोग विनाशकारी है |
